Getting Started with Assignment Builder

In Assignment Builder, you create a graded assignment for students to complete. The grade will be sent to the Collab Gradebook (or Gradebook Classic) if installed on your course site. 

There are three assignment types. You can require students to create a VoiceThread of their own to submit, to comment on a VoiceThread you’ve created, or simply to watch a VoiceThread start to finish.

Create an Assignment

Either within Lessons or in the VoiceThread tool itself, set up your link. When you are given the four options of the type of link to create, select "Assignment Builder."

Select which type of assignment you would like your students to complete. There are three assignment types. You can require students to create a VoiceThread of their own to submit, to comment on a VoiceThread you’ve created, or simply to watch a VoiceThread start to finish.

Create a VoiceThread

To have your students create their own VoiceThread, select the "Create a VoiceThread" option. Click "Continue."

You will see several options for settings for your assignment. For more explanation of these settings, refer to this article.

Once you have selected the settings you want, click "Continue." You will be given a page to finalize the assignment settings. When you are satisfied click "Publish."

Submit a Comment

In this assignment type, students will leave a comment on a VoiceThread you assign. Select the "Comment" assignment type then click "Continue."

Next select the VoiceThread you would like students to comment on. You can also create a new VoiceThread for them to comment on.

Once you have created or selected the desired VoiceThread, you will be given options for the assignment settings. For more information on these settings, refer to this article.

Once you are satisfied with the settings, click "Continue." Finalize your settings and select "Publish."

Watch a VoiceThread

This VoiceThread assignment will require your students to watch an entire VoiceThread. Select "Watch" then "Continue."

You will be taken to a page with all your VoiceThreads. You can select one for the assignment or create a new one.

Once you have selected or created the VoiceThread for the assignment, click "Continue." You will be given options for settings for this assignment. For explanations of the settings, refer to this article.

Once you have picked your settings, click "Continue." You will have the opportunity to finalize the assignment name, instructions, and feedback. When you are ready, click "Publish."

Student Assignment Submission

When students click on the link for a graded assignment, they will see the assignment you’ve created. They can immediately create or select a VoiceThread to submit for the Create Assignment, record comments on your VoiceThread for the Comment Assignment, or watch the VoiceThread for the Watch Assignment. As soon as they click on the “Submit Assignment” button, you will be able to grade their work.
